Various possibilities of additive manufacturing (3D printing) are being investigated at ifw Jena. In particular, we are researching and optimizing methods for processing metals. These processes can be used to produce components with internal cavities and complex structures that would not be possible using drilling or milling. This offers great advantages for many industrial applications.
Our additive manufacturing systems will be running during the Long Night of Science and can be viewed by you. We will be demonstrating various methods of "printing" metal and showing you what these methods can achieve.
You can also have yourself and your children 3D scanned by us and take a digital image of yourself home with you.
Our "wood printer" shows that this doesn't just work with metal or plastic. This is where we make wooden Christmas tree decorations for you all night long.
