Chips for your health

A miniature model of fungal infections in the gut

Candida yeasts, like many bacteria, are harmless inhabitants of our gut. In severely ill patients, however, they can escape the intestine and cause life-threatening diseases. How the fungi are able to do this, what happens during the process, and how we can stop it are the questions we try to answer using a chip-sized model of the human gut.
