Yeast fungi are part of the natural microbiome and live on our mucous membranes. Normally, this coexistence is peaceful, but under certain conditions, they can cause serious infections. Find out how to protect yourself from them here!

We’ll introduce you to the yeast Candida albicans and show you how it interacts with us humans when it’s harmless—and how it can lead to serious, sometimes fatal, illnesses. You’ll get to watch Candida fungi interact with immune cells, we’ll provide you with “magic mushrooms,” and you’ll see just how diverse and colorful our microbiome and the microorganisms in our environment are.

We’ll also show you parts of the lab and stunning microscopy images and videos of how the fungi interact with human cells. Last but not least, you can compete in a pipetting contest and win a little surprise in a fun game (we welcome players of all ages!).
