Everything happens for a reason, and that reason is usually physics. Have you ever wondered how a small master manages to control opponents who are much larger and stronger? We'll provide the answer in our presentation.

The Japanese martial art of Aikido is characterized by the effort to neutralize an attack without harming the attacker. The three syllables mean: Ai – harmony; Ki – energy; Do – way. Thus, Aikido is the way to bring different forces into harmony. For this to happen as effectively as possible, an Aikidoka must intuitively understand and apply physical quantities and principles such as mass, center of gravity, and inertia; momentum and angular momentum; force and vector; the laws of leverage; anatomy and degrees of freedom of the joints; and phase and timing—must intuitively understand and apply these physical quantities and principles. During our demonstrations, we will explain the mechanics of this fascinating martial art in theory and illustrate them with practical examples. You’ll also have the opportunity to try it out for yourself.
