Sudden cardiac death is one of the leading causes of death in Germany. From the moment the heart stops, every second counts. It takes emergency services several minutes to reach the scene of an emergency. The survival of the victim therefore depends on bystanders beginning CPR as quickly as possible.
Often, however, people are too hesitant or afraid of doing something wrong, or it’s been too long since they took their last first-aid course.
But the only mistake is doing nothing. We’ll show you and practice with you how to proceed in three simple steps when providing assistance during a cardiac arrest.
- Check—how to recognize cardiac arrest
- Call—dial 911
- Press—Perform chest compressions correctly
This can double or even triple the chances of survival!
In public buildings (e.g., the Goethegallerie), an AED (automated external defibrillator) may be available. Here, you’ll have the opportunity to see firsthand how to use an AED.
