Otto Schott (1851–1935) is considered one of the most important pioneers of modern glassmaking. As a scientist, entrepreneur, and co-founder of the Jena Glassworks, he combined groundbreaking innovations in glass research with a deep sense of responsibility toward his employees and society. This lecture highlights Schott’s decisive contributions to the development of new specialty glasses, his role in building an internationally successful company, and his commitment to progressive social policies that had an impact far beyond his own time.
