Why is animal research important in the field of aging research?

At the FLI, researchers study the biological basis of aging. Since aging is a highly complex process that affects not only our body’s cells and organs but the entire organism, many scientific questions can only be investigated using animal models.

The conduct of these animal experiments is strictly regulated by law and requires a multi-step approval process. Researchers are always mindful of their responsibility toward the animals. To avoid animal experiments (Replace), minimize the number of animals used in experiments (Reduce), and improve animal welfare (Refine), the 3R principle is consistently applied and implemented.

We provide information about the 3R principle and what else is being done to ensure the well-being of the animals.
