Photonics technologies offer powerful solutions in the fight against rising antibiotic resistance. They enable rapid and reliable diagnoses and novel treatment options for infectious diseases. The Leibniz Center for Photonics in Infection Research (LPI) will establish a user-accessible translational infrastructure that helps bring innovative ideas from photonics into clinical application more quickly. By 2030, the center will be established in a new laboratory building adjacent to the Jena University Hospital (UKJ), complemented by a section of the UKJ’s intensive care units (First-in-Patient Unit), where clinical trials can be conducted close to patients. The LPI will thus bring together science, medicine, and industry to make new diagnostic and therapeutic approaches available.
