Many substances in our environment—from chemical compounds to radioactive materials—are often neither visible nor detectable by smell. Only modern measurement and analysis methods make it possible to reliably detect them, thereby providing an important foundation for environmental and health protection.
We’ll demonstrate how these methods are applied in practice using the example of environmental radioactivity monitoring. Learn about the highly sensitive measurement methods used to detect and monitor radioactive substances in water, soil, and food. Using measuring instruments, demonstrations, and real-world examples, we provide insights into our work. We’ll also show how our measurement results contribute to the nationwide monitoring of environmental radioactivity. Using the publicly accessible overview maps from the Federal Office for Radiation Protection, you can see how measurement data from all over Germany is compiled and clearly presented.
Furthermore, children and adults alike can experience science up close at our booth. Simple hands-on experiments teach fundamental principles of chemistry and physics in a playful way and invite visitors to observe, compare, and experiment for themselves.
