Become a gene code cracker! Decode the genetic code of cancer cells, discover how gene mutations reveal the right treatment, and learn in a fun way how personalised cancer medicine can change lives today.

Every cell in our body contains a special code: the genetic code. It contains important information about how our body works. Sometimes, individual sections of this code change. Such changes are called gene mutations and they can lead to the development of cancer.

Yet it is precisely these changes that provide researchers and doctors with vital insights into the disease. Using the cancer’s specific genetic code, they can select the most appropriate treatment.

Become a gene code cracker and discover how modern cancer medicine works! At our hands-on station, you’ll learn how cancer cells are examined and why the genetic code plays such an important role in this process.

Here’s what you can expect:
Deciphering the genetic code – Learn how changes in the genetic material help to detect cancer and find the right treatment.

Using the right code to find the right treatment – How does personalised medicine differ from traditional systemic therapy in the treatment of cancer? Identify the mutation and understand how precisely personalised medicine works. After successfully completing the course, you’ll receive the ‘Gene Code Cracker’ award for learning how to beat cancer through clever research and personalised medicine!

Bonus for adults: There’s also the opportunity on site to register with the German Stem Cell Donor Registry (DSD) as a potential stem cell donor, thereby offering hope to people with blood cancers.

Further information is available on the websites of the University Tumour Centre Jena and the Central German Cancer Centre
