In the materials testing laboratory at ifw Jena, welds, steel components, and samples from our research are subjected to radiographic testing. The goal of radiographic testing is to get a look inside components. This allows us to determine whether there are any voids or defects that could, for example, compromise a component’s strength.
You can see for yourself just how well this radiographic testing works by examining four selected blocks. From the outside, the blocks look like ordinary pumpkin lanterns, TNTs, chests, or melons. Only an X-ray reveals the secret behind the blocks and shows exactly what’s inside them.
