At home, we use our oven to bake cakes. At the ifw Jena, we’ll show you how to use specialised oven systems to ‘bake’ complex components made of metal, glass or plastic.

Our furnace laboratory houses a range of furnace systems for heat treatment, brazing and diffusion bonding of various materials. Here, we process a wide variety of materials using different processes at temperatures of up to 1,600 °C.

During the Long Night of Science, we’ll show you how our furnaces work and how diffusion welding can be used to 3D-print even large components made of metal and glass. You can watch live as we ‘bake’ key rings and then take your own personalised key rings home with you.
