Welding can be done by hand or automatically using a robot. We’ll be showing you how a welding robot works and how to control it at the LNDW!

In our arc welding laboratory, we investigate various welding processes on a wide range of industrial equipment. In doing so, we aim to develop existing processes so that they require less energy and welding work can be carried out more quickly and easily. Our welding robot assists us in our research, allowing us to test and improve arc welding processes.

For the Long Night of Science, we’re converting our robot so that you can get to know it safely: instead of a welding torch, we’ll put a fishing rod in its hand. You, on the other hand, will be given the remote control and can operate our welding robot yourselves. Whilst catching fish, you can try out for yourselves how a welding robot moves and what capabilities it has.

And once you’ve had a go at fishing with the robot, you can experience the welding processes up close and try them out for yourselves:

How do you weld properly?
Have you ever tried welding yourself?
Have you ever welded with lasers yourself?
