The exhibition "Images and Building Blocks" focuses on birds and insects. Through documentary nature photography, Hubert Mahr aims to highlight the fascinating diversity of local habitats and draw attention to details that are often overlooked.

With his eyes wide open and his camera in hand, Hubert Mahrsets out intonature on the prowl—keeping an eye mainly on birds and insects. In this exhibition, the passionate nature photographer from Emden presents a small selection of his photographs taken in recent years, opening our eyes to many things that are all too often easily overlooked. This exhibition invites us to rediscover our surroundings—vibrant and full of hidden details—and encourages us to experience nature more consciously and treat it with respect.

Younger visitors, in particular, are sure to be thrilled by the fascinating interplay between the nature photographs and the miniature building blocks.

Let yourself be inspired by the unusual perspectives, creative “moments of light,” and a passion for photography.

Hubert Mahr was born in Büdingen in 1960 and has lived in East Frisia for more than 30 years. His great passion is nature photography. He finds the subjects for his photographs primarily in East Frisia and the Oldenburg Münsterland region, often around Lake Dümmer and in the adjacent Ochsenmoor. His collection is complemented by photos taken during his vacations. In August 2026, his photo “Bee” won first place in the “Animal Portrait” category at the “Fascination with Nature at Ökowerk” photography contest hosted by the Ökowerk Emden Foundation.
