Intensive care is more than just medicine reliant on machines. We explain and demonstrate how patients receive ‘intensive’ care.

A stroke or sepsis, an accident or an operation – all of these can be reasons why a stay in the intensive care unit becomes necessary.
What happens there, and what are all those machines used for? That is exactly what we would like to show you using our patient simulator. The patient simulator is used here to demonstrate typical processes and procedures in intensive care medicine in a realistic manner. Simulators are used in medical education, training and continuing professional development to train staff from the various professional groups within the medical teams. At the same time, you’ll get to know the people who work in our intensive care units and who are dedicated to looking after the well-being of their patients.

The Department of Anaesthesiology and Intensive Care Medicine also carries out research, primarily into sepsis. This is a life-threatening complication resulting from an infection, in which organs fail and intensive care treatment is required. Individual characteristics of patients influence the course of sepsis. By researching these characteristics and gaining a better understanding of them, we hope to develop more precise and efficient treatments.

Of course, it is far better if it does not come to that at all. We provide information on prevention and warning signs – because early detection and treatment can save lives!
