Manufacturing technology is a subfield of mechanical engineering. It focuses on the interaction between people, machines, and tools to create workpieces with geometrically definable shapes.
Based on the designer’s specifications, individual parts are thus produced that, when arranged into assemblies, fulfill specific functions. In the laboratories of the Department of Mechanical Engineering, both traditional processes such as turning, milling, and grinding, as well as modern processes such as electrical discharge machining (EDM), state-of-the-art manufacturing measurement technology, and machining simulations are demonstrated.
