How can we put the ever-changing diversity of nature into words? How do we describe the seamless transition from cotyledon to stem leaves? How can we translate the delicate fusion of the suture in the intermaxillary bone into language?
We’ll explore these and many other questions in a writing workshop at the Goethe Laboratory. The starting point for our literary explorations will be objects from the exhibition and plants from the Botanical Garden. Using these, we’ll trace Goethe’s vision of a morphological science right up to the present day. After an introduction, we’ll try to “translate” what we see with our own eyes—inspired by Goethe’s natural history studies—into a poem and head out into the night as newly minted authors.
