Measuring Music

Music is full of maths – and can even be measured! Behind every note, every chord and every rhythm lies a fascinating world of numbers, vibrations and mathematical structures. Together, we’ll embark on a journey through the mathematics of sound and discover how frequencies determine pitch, why octaves and harmonies are based on simple numerical ratios, and why different instruments sound completely different despite producing the same notes. In exciting experiments, the sounds of different instruments will be measured and made visible – and, of course, there’ll be plenty of live music too.
