Discover how the Atlantic’s large-scale ocean circulation works and how it influences the climate in Europe.
At our exciting hands-on station, we’ll show you how thermohaline circulation works – the huge, slow ‘pump’ in the Atlantic that transports warm surface water northwards and causes cold, dense water to sink into the deep sea. Using a simple water tank model, we can demonstrate how differences in density generate a global current – a key driving force behind the Earth’s climate.
