Whether sending confidential messages or protecting sensitive data, secure encryption of information plays an important role in many areas of life. One future-proof method is quantum encryption, in which secure keys are transmitted in a way that allows eavesdropping attempts to be detected.
To date, the transmission of these qubits has been demonstrated, for example, via satellites or drones. In this presentation, Dr. Christopher Spiess introduces a new approach: transmission from an aircraft to a ground-based optical station. He will discuss flight experiments conducted as part of the QuNET project in collaboration with the German Aerospace Center (DLR). The results obtained so far show that this method can already be used today to secure data requiring special protection.
