Keynote presentation on a current DFG research project on amateur and everyday photography

The exhibition ‘Everyone Taking Photos? Amateur and Everyday Photography from Jena’ shows how images shape the way we see, think and remember – and reveals that behind every photograph lies not only a subject but also a story.

The exhibition forms part of a nationwide research and outreach project coordinated by the Institute for Saxon History and Folklore (ISGV) in Dresden and the Institute for Cultural Anthropology/European Ethnology at the University of Göttingen, and funded by the German Research Foundation (DFG). Alongside the Jena City Museum, the Department of Cultural Anthropology/Cultural History at the University of Jena, the Dresden Technical Collections and the LWL Museum Henrichshütte in Hattingen are participating in this unique project on amateur and everyday photography.

During the introductory tour, curators Nadine Kulbe and Dr Nathalie Knöhr will provide an insight into the research project as well as the exhibition projects that have been developed and are still in progress.
