We are never alone. Trillions of microorganisms live in our gut, forming what is known as the gut microbiome. These tiny companions help us digest food, support our immune system, and influence many aspects of our health.

Tiny microbes generate big data. Every person’s gut microbiome is unique, and we’re just beginning to unlock the secrets hidden within it. To do this, we use powerful computer programs to sift through millions of pieces of information and uncover patterns that would otherwise remain invisible.

At this station, you’ll learn how biology, computer science, and artificial intelligence work together to study the gut microbiome. Learn how this research could help improve cancer detection and yield new insights into cancer cachexia—a serious condition that affects many cancer patients.
