3D printing has now become a common production method in many companies. The materials that can be 3D-printed are as varied as the 3D printing processes themselves.

Here at ifw Jena, we’ll show you the various ways in which objects can be 3D-printed. Using binder jetting, material extrusion, laser melting or powder-bed-based processes, we manufacture complex components using additive manufacturing for a range of applications. Our research focuses primarily on determining which materials are best suited to which processes. We work not only with plastics but also print metals, glass and wood.

During the Long Night of Science, we’ll be giving you an insight into our laboratory for additive manufacturing processes. Our scientists will show you which equipment is required for which 3D printing processes and how the individual processes work.

You can also find out how we create the 3D models for the printers:

Another 3D printing process is diffusion bonding, which we’ll demonstrate to you in our furnace laboratory:

Stamp Rally in Göschwitz | We’re putting Göschwitz in the spotlight!

If you visit at least 6 of the 14 participating institutes and companies, and collect a stamp from each one, you’ll receive a small gift at the end of your discovery tour – including from us!

Please note:

  • Participation is voluntary and free of charge.
  • The small gift is only available on 20 November upon presentation of your stamp card (whilst stocks last).
  • No cash alternative available.
