Traditional treatment approaches are like using a sledgehammer to crack a nut. The active ingredient spreads throughout the entire body, which means higher doses are needed for the treatment to be effective and can lead to unwanted side effects. When it comes to treating fungal infections in particular, we face the additional challenge that there are very few classes of active ingredients available for their treatment, and we are increasingly dealing with fungi that are resistant to these medications.
During a visit to our lab, we’ll show you how we’re addressing this problem to release the active ingredients specifically at the site of action. This allows us to increase treatment efficacy while reducing the dose—and, consequently, side effects. You’ll also have the opportunity to conduct hands-on experiments in our lab. Through these experiments, you’ll learn how we control the release of active ingredients, investigate targeting mechanisms using complex cell culture models, and explore the impact of nebulizers in pulmonary applications.
