Introducing: Autogenic Training
Can you relax simply by thinking? Yes! Our bodies and our thoughts are closely connected. It is precisely this connection that autogenic training makes use of – a scientifically proven relaxation method developed around 100 years ago by the Berlin psychiatrist Johannes Heinrich Schultz.
But how does it actually work?
With autogenic training, we learn to promote physical relaxation through focused concentration and simple mental imagery. Thoughts such as ‘My arm feels pleasantly heavy’ or ‘My breathing is calm and steady’ help us to turn our attention inwards and consciously find a sense of calm.
This isn’t about magic or willpower, but rather the interplay between imagination, perception and physical reactions.
What happens in our bodies during this process?
In everyday life, our bodies are often geared towards activity and performance. Stress and tension can play a major role in this. When we relax, muscle tension, heart rate and breathing, amongst other things, can change. The autonomic nervous system, which controls many of these processes, plays an important role here.
Through regular practice, we can learn to support this relaxation process more consciously.
How does this benefit me?
Autogenic training can help to reduce stress and inner restlessness, promote relaxation, improve concentration and develop a better awareness of one’s own body.
The great thing about it is that the method can be integrated into everyday life without any equipment and in just a short space of time.
Curious?
Then discover just how much relaxation lies within you! Learn the basics of autogenic training and find out how you can give your body a conscious break through simple mental exercises.
After all, sometimes relaxation really does start in the mind – and spreads throughout the whole body.
