At the Open Lab Night at the Reallabor Nahversorgung, we’ll open the doors to our Reallabor on the campus of the Ernst Abbe University of Applied Sciences in Jena and provide insights into current approaches and concepts in brick-and-mortar retail. The focus is on digital applications and technologies that can transform in-store shopping, local supply chains, and work in the retail sector.
At the Reallabor Nahversorgung, technologies are not merely examined in theory but are made directly accessible for visitors to experience and test. Visitors can see how digital solutions can be applied in retail and what opportunities—as well as challenges—are associated with them.
During the lab tour, we’ll provide insights into selected applications and technologies relevant to modern local supply. Among other things, we’ll showcase digital solutions for customer information, innovative grab-and-go systems, AI-powered self-checkout processes, and digital applications for retail operations. Through hands-on demonstrations, it becomes clear how such technologies are transforming shopping processes.
The focus is not only on the technology itself, but also on the question of what concrete benefits such solutions can offer retailers, customers, and local communities. How can digital systems help simplify processes? And what requirements must be met for such technologies to actually work in everyday life?
The tour is aimed at anyone interested in retail, digitalization, regional supply chains, and applied research. No prior knowledge is required. The content will be explained in an accessible manner and illustrated with concrete examples. The goal is to provide an impression of the work being done at the Real-World Laboratory for Local Supply.
Laboratory tours take place every full hour. A maximum of 10 people may participate per tour to ensure there is enough time for questions, discussion, and demonstrations.
We look forward to welcoming curious visitors, hearing exciting questions, and discussing together what the future of brick-and-mortar retail might look like.
We celebrate science!
