High-precision isotope analyses of atmospheric gases

Our researchers collect air, soil and plant samples during numerous field trips and at fixed research sites. These samples are then processed and analysed at the institute. To track the fate of greenhouse-relevant trace gases such as carbon dioxide and methane, we need to determine the composition of their isotopes in the air and how these change. We use mass spectrometry for this purpose.
