Endometriosis is regarded as the ‘chameleon’ amongst benign gynaecological conditions; it affects around 15 per cent of all women of childbearing age. In this condition, tissue similar to the lining of the womb grows outside the womb. It changes in line with the hormonal cycle, causes non-specific to chronic pain and can lead to infertility. Due to the vague symptoms and the varied locations where the tissue can grow, several years may pass between the onset of the first symptoms and the diagnosis being made.
