Endometriosis – why it affects us all
Severe pain during menstruation and non-specific symptoms: it often takes years before endometriosis is diagnosed. Yet around one in ten women aged between 20 and 40 suffer from this gynaecological condition, in which the lining of the womb grows outside the womb. The condition and its consequences affect many areas of life, not only for the woman affected but also for those closest to her. Senior Consultant Dr Valentina Auletta, Coordinator of the Endometriosis Centre, Dr Anne Schirrmeister, a specialist in anaesthesiology and intensive care medicine, and Anna Lena Kosmeier, a specialist at the Institute for Physical and Rehabilitative Medicine at Jena University Hospital. The experts will discuss how multimodal pain management is implemented on an interdisciplinary basis and improves quality of life.
