A Look Back at the History of the Long Night of Science in Jena

Beekeeping in the Middle Ages was very different from what it is today. So-called “Zeidler” climbed to great heights to harvest the sweet gold, and heavily laden wagons, carrying heavy barrels of honey, made their way through forests and mountains.

In 1846, Carl Wilhelm Goettling founded the Archaeological Museum at the University of Jena. Donations and acquisitions have caused the collection to grow significantly over the decades. An anniversary exhibition traces its 180-year history through a selection of donated items.
